The Ramanathapuram District Drinking Water and Sanitation Committee met on Wednesday at the District Collectorate conference hall under the chairmanship of District Collector M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran
Reviewing the progress of the Ramanathapuram Combined Drinking Water Project, officials informed the committee that significant headway has been made across multiple infrastructure segments.
Out of 97 Zonal Balancing Reservoir (ZBR) works, 94 have been completed. In rural areas, 795 out of 801 Overhead Tank (OHT) construction works have been finished, while urban areas have seen the completion of 20 out of 21 OHT projects.
Additionally, authorities reported that piped drinking water has successfully reached 229 out of the 2,306 targeted habitations.
With roughly 95% of the combined water project now complete and trial runs currently under way, the Collector directed officials to accelerate the remaining tasks to ensure drinking water supply reaches all designated areas without delay.
Mr. Sivaguru Prabhakaran instructed authorities to ensure proper segregation of waste generated across households, commercial establishments, and public spaces in rural areas.
Non-biodegradable waste is to be promptly handed over or sold to authorised recycling and waste-purchasing entities. Further, officials were ordered to prevent garbage accumulation in local bodies and strictly enforce a ban on the open burning of waste in public areas.
