Read Kuvempu’s literature before becoming government officers: Ravi D. Channannavar

Senior IPS officer Ravi D. Channannavar on Saturday advised aspirants preparing for government jobs to read the literature of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu before becoming administrative officers.

He was speaking at the valedictory function of a training camp for KPSC and KEA examinations organised by the Competitive Examination Training Centre of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) in Mysuru.

Emphasising the relationship between literature and administration, Mr. Channannavar referred to Kuvempu’s renowned plays “Beralgē Koral”, “Smashana Kurukshetra” and “Shudra Tapaswi”. He said an officer who merely studied laws and administered authority could not become a truly people-friendly administrator.

“Before becoming an officer, one must understand the pulse of society, equality and social justice. Kuvempu’s literature can serve as a guide in developing this understanding,” he said.

He urged young people who dream of building a better society to aspire to higher positions and commended the free training programmes for providing opportunities to talented students from rural areas.

Mr. Channannavar said hard work alone was not sufficient to succeed in competitive examinations, stressing the importance of positive thinking and strict time management. He advised aspirants to follow a structured daily schedule and prepare systematically using question papers from the previous 10 years. “Success can be achieved even on a difficult path through consistent effort and strong determination,” he said.

Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar praised KSOU for providing free competitive examination programmes to students and contributing to society. He urged aspirants to develop creativity before entering government service.

He explained that administrative officers play an important role in implementing decisions taken by the legislature within the framework of the legislature, executive and judiciary. He encouraged students to develop creative thinking and recognise their responsibilities towards society.

Releasing a study book, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner M.K. Savitha recalled her association with Mysuru-based Jnanabuthi institution and the guidance and support she received from it while preparing for competitive examinations.

She said Jnanabuthi had helped provide hundreds of officers to society by offering training at very low cost or free of charge to rural and economically disadvantaged students. She urged students to make use of such institutions, work hard to achieve their goals and dedicate themselves to serving society.

Presiding over the programme, KSOU Vice-Chancellor A.P. Jnanaprakash advised students to go beyond reading textbooks and prepare notes after developing a proper understanding of the subjects.

He stressed the importance of effective time management during examinations and revising key topics. He also encouraged students to develop communication, technological, problem-solving and independent decision-making skills alongside their academic studies.

KSOU Management Board member Manju R., Registrar S.K. Naveen Kumar, Academic Dean Ramanatham Naidu, Training Centre Coordinator Jainahalli Satyanarayanagowda, and others were present.
