Redevelopment of three railway stations in Tiruchi Division to be over next month

The redevelopment of Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur and Villupuram stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) will be completed by next month. The redevelopment of Lalgudi, Karaikal and Tirupadirippuliyur stations under the same scheme is to be completed by March, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, Balak Ram Negi said on Monday.

Speaking at the Republic Day celebration here, Mr. Negi said Tiruvarur, Ariyalur and Vellore Cantonment stations were redeveloped under the scheme and were ready for inauguration.

Highlighting the achievements of the division in the current financial year, Mr. Negi said the Tiruchi Division earned a gross revenue of ₹1,139.30 crore from April 1 to December 2025, registering an increase in passenger and goods earnings.

The division handled 30.926 million of passenger traffic from April to December 2025, registering an increase of 6.63 % over the corresponding period of 2024. The division had crossed the 10 million tonnes freight loading mark on January 1, 2026, within 276 days for the fourth consecutive time. 

CCTVs at non-interlocked gates

Seven level crossing gates in the division were interlocked to ensure public safety and train safety. Closed Circuit Television Units had been installed at 13 non-interlocked level crossing gates to ensure safe working.

Mr. Negi said the Tiruchi Division achieved 95.59% punctuality for express, passenger and Trains on Demand during the current fiscal from April to December registering an improvement of 0.71 % as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Golden Rock workshop

Chief Workshop Manager Santosh Kumar Patro unfurled the national flag at the Republic Day celebration at the Golden Rock Railway Workshop here. He lauded the workshop’s “strong momentum” and “shared pursuit of excellence” across all wings.

For the first time, the workshop achieved a 365-day accident-free period throughout 2025. Infrastructure was bolstered by ₹9.71 crore in new machinery.

Mr. Patro presented a total of 105 awards to staff and officers for their outstanding dedication, a press release from the workshop said.
