At the 87th convocation of Annamalai University on Monday, J. Pushparaj, a research scholar received his degree holding a photo of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in front of Governor R.N. Ravi, creating a mild flutter.
“I wanted to receive the degree from the Chief Minister who was elected by the people. I studied with the ₹1lakh scholarship provided by the government and his presence at the function would have been better as I would have had the opportunity to thank him,” he told reporters.
He was among the 1,014 candidates who received their degrees and medals in person.
To ensure that the right degree was handed over to the right candidate at the convocation ceremony and to avoid any mix-ups, Annamalai University had implemented the practice of distributing degree certificates to candidates before the start of the ceremony.
Candidates, therefore, arrive on the dais with their own degree certificates and pose for a formal photograph with the dignitaries on stage.
