An owner-tenant dispute involving Lucky Restaurant in Madhapur escalated into alleged damage to the establishment, assault and threats, followed by a protest on the road that led to separate cases against both sides.

Mohammed Mansoor Ali, who told police that he had been running the restaurant near Pillar No. 1723 for the past six years, alleged that portions of the premises were damaged using an earth mover on October 3.

According to his complaint, Mansoor received a call from his worker, Ali, informing him that some persons were damaging the restaurant. Mansoor and his wife Rehana Begum rushed to the spot, where they allegedly found the owners Hari, Ravi and others, including some women, damaging parts of the premises with an earth mover.

The pan shop, tea point and bakery were allegedly damaged. When the couple attempted to intervene, the group allegedly abused and threatened them. Some women in the group allegedly assaulted Rehana Begum, police said.

Mansoor further alleged that the group obstructed him and attempted to snatch his mobile phone when he tried to record the incident. Based on his complaint, Madhapur police registered a case against the owners of the building and others.

Police said the dispute stemmed from the lease of the premises and payment of rent. Mansoor had allegedly not paid rent for the past few months, leading to differences with Ravi, Hari and others. The owners were also accused of damaging the approach road or pathway to the restaurant and obstructing access.

The dispute also resulted in a separate case against Mansoor and others. Around 12.10 a.m. on October 3, while a Madhapur police patrol vehicle was near the Indian Petrol Pump, Mansoor, his wife and others allegedly came onto the road and obstructed the police vehicle.

They allegedly sat on the road, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to motorists, besides obstructing police personnel from discharging their duties. A case was subsequently registered against Mansoor and others.

Police also said the FSSAI licence of Lucky Restaurant had been suspended on September 26 following food-safety and hygiene deficiencies noticed during an inspection.

Both cases are under investigation.
