The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Sunday (September 20, 2026) organised a special drive to sensitise the public on the dangers of placing objects and dumping garbage on railway tracks.
RPF personnel visited vulnerable locations across the Coimbatore circle, particularly at KM 477/300 near Ondipudur road over bridge, Irugur Yard and other vulnerable sections.
Members of the public were sensitised about the dangers of trespassing onto railway tracks, pelting stones at trains, leaving cattle for grazing on the sides of tracks and other activities that may endanger passengers, railway employees and railway property.
Officers said that the campaign was conducted as part of observing the RPF Raising Day, 2026. RPF also organised other programmes focusing on railway security, passenger safety, public awareness, cleanliness and preventive measures under the supervision of Chandra Mohan, Assistant Security Commissioner, RPF Coimbatore.
A mass passenger awareness drive was conducted at the Coimbatore railway station and onboard trains from 8 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. RPF personnel interacted with passengers and created awareness regarding passenger safety and security, prevention of crime, protection of railway property and the role of the RPF in safeguarding passengers and railway. A total of 25 officers and staff took part in a cleanliness drive at the ‘Kurinji’ RPF Barracks, Coimbatore.
A guest lecture on yoga for preventive oncology and another one on the role and importance of trained dogs in railway security and related operational activities were held at S&T workshop conference hall, Podanur.Â
