Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss was on Monday (December 29, 2025) elected president of the party at the executive committee and general council meeting of his faction held in Salem. [His estranged son Anbumani Ramadoss, who heads another faction, has insisted that he continues to be the president of the PMK.]
The meeting “expelled” Mr. Anbumani’s wife, Sowmiya Anbumani, from the post of president of Pasumai Thaayagam, an environmental wing of the party.

Dr. Ramadoss broke down while speaking about his mother and estranged son. “Cadres have come to know which alliance the PMK will be part of. I am not talking about alliances now, but a good and victorious alliance will be formed. We (Vanniyars) will get 10.5% internal reservation. For the past 10 days, I have been receiving the views of every district secretary and president on the alliance. Based on these views, I will make a decision. The time has not come for an alliance. I will form an alliance that will emerge victorious,” Dr. Ramadoss said.
Criticising Mr. Anbumani and his supporters, Dr. Ramadoss said that “a ‘group’ that was brought up by me is insulting me.” He added: “Mr. Anbumani is giving a party post to a person who wanted to strangle me. Now, 95% of the cadres are behind me, and not even 5% of the cadres are with Mr. Anbumani. This upcoming election will give an answer to Mr. Anbumani. If I wish, I might get all positions at the national level. But as I promised not to hold any position, I made Mr. Anbumani a Union Minister at the age of 36.”
27 resolutions passed
A total of 27 resolutions were passed at the meeting, including electing Dr. Ramadoss’s daughter Srikanti as party working president and president of Pasumai Thaayagam. The meeting also vested in Dr. Ramadoss the authority to decide on alliance for the 2026 Assembly elections and it granted “approval for expelling” Mr Anbumani’s supporters from the party. The meeting further demanded the closure of all Tasmac liquor outlets in the State.
Ms. Srikanti, too, said for the past few months, “a group” has been insulting Dr. Ramadoss and “trying to grab the party.”
She wondered whether Mr. Anbumani became a Rajya Sabha member and a Union Minister because of his own work. “Dr. Ramadoss gave these positions to him. Mr. Anbumani attended Parliament only 15% of the days, while other Tamil Nadu MPs attended 75% of the days,” she alleged.
“Without Dr. Ramadoss, the PMK is like a dead body. Betrayers and bad forces are out of the party. Hereafter, everyone will see Dr. Ramadoss’ politics. Giving support from outside the government is not enough. A change of power in Tamil Nadu is needed, and the PMK should be part of the government. At least 25 PMK MLAs should enter the Assembly in the upcoming elections,” Ms. Srikanti added.
