The Salem City Police detained 127 persons under the provisions of Goondas Act this year.
The police are detaining people involved in a series of criminal activities, including murder, theft, robbery, ration rice smuggling, lottery selling, hooch selling, drug and ganja peddling, and other illegal activities under the provisions of Goondas Act. Likewise, people with criminal records and those posing a threat to law and order and public peace are also detained under the Act.
This year, till Friday (December 26), the Salem City Police detained 127 persons under the provisions of the Goondas Act – 82 history sheeters, 14 for burgling, 18 for drug peddling, five for ration rice smuggling, three for sexual assault, two for selling painkiller tablets, one for selling hooch, one for selling gutka and one person for involvement in cybercrime fraud.
Likewise, the Salem district police detained 29 persons under the provisions of Goondas Act till Friday – 20 history sheeters and nine bootleggers.
