Sanjay Saraogi assumes charge as Bihar BJP State President, expresses gratitude to party workers

The newly appointed Bihar State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sanjay Saraogi, on Thursday (December 18, 2025) formally assumed charge at the party office.

Addressing party workers and leaders during a felicitation ceremony, he said the organisation was supreme in the BJP and its ideology was the soul of the party. He said that party workers were the backbone of the organisation.

Mr. Saraogi told party workers that his education began in the shakhas of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and that his journey from “I” to “We” began with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Acknowledging senior leaders and former State presidents, Mr. Saraogi said veteran leaders had shaped him like skilled artisans and entrusted him with this important responsibility.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president J.P. Nadda, and National Working President Nitin Nabin, stating that he would live up to the confidence reposed in him.

Mr. Saraogi arrived in Patna from his Assembly constituency of Darbhanga, where he received a warm welcome at several locations. After reaching the State office, he was accorded a grand reception.

Members of the Mahila Morcha welcomed him with the ceremonial sound of conch shells. Addressing the felicitation ceremony, he said, “This is not a post, but a responsibility. I assure you that I will work day and night to fulfil this responsibility and leave no stone unturned in strengthening the party’s ideology.”

He expressed hope that he would continue to receive the support of senior leaders in Bihar and guidance from the national leadership. He assured party workers that no worker would be neglected and that every worker would be given due respect.

Mr. Saraogi further said efforts would be made to ensure coordination between the organisation and the government, with the goal of building a developed Bihar.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary congratulated the new State president and said that in the BJP, responsibilities keep changing and everyone moves forward by fulfilling their duties with excellence.

He expressed confidence that as there are no elections in the next three years, the new president would further strengthen the organisation. Mr. Choudhary also said that nine former State presidents would guide him.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said the central leadership was entrusting major responsibilities to party workers and that it was the duty of everyone to fulfil these responsibilities effectively.

He expressed confidence that under the new leadership, the honour, respect and self-esteem of party workers would increase, and the goal of a developed Bihar would be achieved.

The function was attended by Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh, and several Ministers, MLAs and MLCs of the party.

Before reaching the BJP’s party office, Mr. Saraogi paid floral tribute to the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar near the Patna High Court. He then proceeded in an open vehicle as part of a procession accompanied by party workers on motorcycles. The procession also included elephants and horses. He later paid homage by garlanding the statue of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan.

Outgoing State president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, while expressing gratitude for the support he received from party workers and senior leaders during his 17-month-long tenure, said the return of the National Democratic Alliance government in Bihar with a massive mandate was the result of a collective effort. He said the taking over by the new State president was a day of celebration, joy and pride for the BJP.
