Scammers impersonate Nilgiris Collector, case registered

The Cyber Crime police are investigating persons who allegedly impersonated the Nilgiris District Collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, in an attempt to extort money from individuals.

According to officials, the scammers used Ms. Tanneeru’s photograph as their display picture on a mobile messaging platform. They then approached a number of people, claiming to the Collector, and sought money from them under various pretexts. A few members working for the district administration reportedly received these suspicious messages and informed the Collector.
