A 27-year-old man belonging to a Scheduled Caste was hacked to death at K.T.C. Nagar in Palayamkottai of Tirunelveli district on Sunday (July 27, 2025).
According to police, the deceased has been identified as C. Kavin Selvaganesh (27) from Arumugamangalam in Thoothukudi district. On Sunday, he had accompanied a relative to a private hospital located in K.T.C. Nagar.
Preliminary investigations revealed that he was allegedly murdered by S. Surjith (23), residing near K.T.C. Nagar. Kavin and the accused were known to each other, and the motive behind the murder is reported to be Kavin’s one-sided interest towards Surjith’s sister.
Due to this, an altercation broke out between the two near the hospital, during which an enraged Surjith assaulted Kavin with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot.
The police rushed to the spot, recovered Kavin’s body and sent it for post-mortem examination. A case of murder has been registered at Palayamkottai police station and Surjith was arrested.
