With the Palpannai junction at Ariyamangalam witnessing severe traffic congestion in the city right through the day, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Tuesday inspected the spot along with senior officials and discussed possible solutions to ease the situation.
He was accompanied by senior Revenue, police and transport department officials.
Mr.Poyyamozhi pointed out that the four-road intersection at Palpannai was witnessing severe traffic congestion every day causing much inconvenience to road users, especially school, college students, office goers and patients visiting hospitals.
Various solutions and suggestions were discussed during the inspection and these included widening the road Tiruchi-Thanjavur Highway stretch; building a new road from the highway along the Uyyakondan river banks up to Senthaneerpuram; developing alternative roads, installing pedestrian signals, improving lighting at the junction, diversion of heavy vehicles via the bypass road from Thuvakudi at times of heavy traffic in the city and installing a temporary steel bridge over the Irattai Vaical.
Appropriate measures will be implemented on trial basis keeping in mind the suggestions mooted so as to ease the congestion and prevent accidents, he said.
