South Coast Railway (SCoR) has stepped up safety measures across its four divisions in view of the heavy rainfall expected over the next two days following a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
SCoR general manager Sandeep Mathur chaired a high-level safety review meeting to evaluate disaster preparedness and directed officials across the zone’s four divisions to remain on high alert and closely monitor the weather conditions and vulnerable locations.
Mr. Mathur directed officials to shift from reactive management to proactive resilience planning. Key directives issued during the review include setting up 24×7 war rooms at zonal and divisional levels to track weather patterns and manage public enquiry helplines. The zones were also ordered to deploy round-the-clock stationary watchmen and mobile patrolmen to monitor water levels near vulnerable bridges, tracks, and high-risk cuttings.
Furthermore, authorities have positioned standby diesel locomotives, power backups, and specialised accident relief trains for immediate emergency mobilisation. Station catering units have been instructed to maintain sufficient buffer stocks of food and essential supplies for passengers.
Commending field vigilance, during the meeting Mr. Mathur presented the ‘Employee of the Month’ awards to four personnel for ensuring safe train operations: G. Praveen Kumar (pointsman, Vijayawada division), Sudarshan Sahu (pointsman, Guntur division), Dharmendra Meena (track maintainer-I, Guntakal division), and P. Srinivas Rao (track maintainer-I, Visakhapatnam division).
