South Central Railway (SCR) is set to launch a first-of-its-kind Rail Parcel app aimed at providing door-to-door parcel booking and delivery services for rail users. The Hyderabad division will be the first in Indian Railways to implement this pilot project.
SCR general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava will launch the app and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Bengaluru to conduct a study on the freight logistics market on SCR.
The parcel app is a comprehensive digital platform that integrates first‑mile pickup, mid‑mile rail transportation, and last‑mile delivery into a unified system, making parcel movement simpler, faster and more transparent for customers. It will serve as a one-stop platform for booking, tracking and managing parcel consignments, offering online booking, digital payments and real‑time tracking with automated updates sent to customers at every stage.
Safety awards
Fifteen employees received the Employee of the Month Safety Awards in recognition of their dedication and alertness in preventing unsafe conditions. The awards were presented by the general manager at a review meeting attended by principal heads of departments and divisional railway managers of Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded.
The awards were given to critical frontline staff, including track maintainers, station masters, loco pilots, pointsmen and keymen — five from Vijayawada, three each from Secunderabad, Nanded and Guntakal, and one from Guntur division.
Mr. Srivastava reiterated that safety requirements must never be compromised. He emphasised the need to sensitise staff on all aspects of safety, strengthen fire‑safety measures, carry out inspections of points and crossings, and ensure the removal of construction materials near tracks after completion of works, a press release said.
