The Swachh Andhra Corporation will organise the second edition of the ‘Swachhathon’ marathon in Vijayawada-Amaravati region on October 2 to mark Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Diwas, said corporation Chairman K. Pattabhiram.
Addressing the media in Vijayawada on Tuesday, Mr. Pattabhiram said the marathon is being organised under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative and the Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra campaign. He said the first edition of Swachhathon attracted around 6,000-7,000 runners, while this year’s event is expected to draw nearly 10,000 participants.
The marathon will feature 5K, 10K and 21K categories, with cash prizes totalling ₹10 lakh for the winners. The event will begin at 5 a.m. from the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium. Minister for IT and HRD Nara Lokesh is expected to flag off the run, while other Ministers, MPs, MLAs, public representatives and personalities from the film and sports sectors are expected to participate.
The route will pass through the Police Control Room, Vinayaka temple, Seethamma Vari Padalu, Krishna Barrage and Steel Bridge before reaching Manthena Satyanarayana Raju Ashram in the Amaravati capital region and returning to Vijayawada. Drummers, cultural performances, and zumba sessions will entertain and encourage runners along the route.
Registration is mandatory, though non-registered participants may join the 5K run.
