The Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam entered its second phase in Coimbatore district on Friday, marked by a ceremony where ATM cards were distributed to beneficiaries. Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva, Pollachi MP K. Eswarasamy, District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, Mayor K. Ranganayaki, and other officials were present at the event.
In 2023, a total of 4,25,705 women were selected under the first phase, each receiving ₹1,000 per month through direct bank transfers. The annual allocation for this phase is ₹510,84,60,000.
During the “Ungaludan Stalin” special camps held this year, the district received 1,74,599 applications for inclusion under the scheme. After field verification, 50,648 women were found eligible for the second phase. They will receive ₹1,000 per month, with a monthly outlay of ₹5,06,48,000 and an annual allocation of ₹60,77,76,000.
With both phases combined, Coimbatore district now has 4,76,353 beneficiaries under the scheme. The monthly expenditure stands at ₹47,63,53,000, and the annual expenditure amounts to ₹571,62,36,000, credited directly to the bank accounts of eligible women.
In the second phase, the number of beneficiaries across Coimbatore district’s blocks are: Coimbatore North 12,548, Sulur 6,190, Coimbatore South 5,360, Madukkarai 5,265, Perur 4,929, Pollachi 4,191, Mettupalayam 3,800, Anamalai 3,253, Annur 2,801, Kinathukadavu 1,547, and Valparai 764.
