The second phase of the ‘Sneha Sagaram’ survey, aimed at identifying the development needs of coastal communities, began at the Kozhikode South beach here on Sunday (October 11, 2026).
The survey, conducted in association with the Society for Assistance to Fisherwomen (SAF) under the Fisheries department, Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation, and the ‘Aksharasamudram’ project, follows the first phase completed on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti. Students from various colleges are participating as volunteers.
Inaugurating the survey at the Pallikkandi Government Lower Primary School, V.K. Faisal Babu, MLA, said the current phase focussed on collecting information to identify beneficiaries for individual assistance schemes.
The survey comprises 22 questions covering various aspects of the lives of coastal residents. Based on the findings, several initiatives are being planned to benefit senior citizens and local entrepreneurs, he said.
The MLA said modern walking sticks would be provided to residents aged above 60 within a month. Special assistance schemes would also be introduced for entrepreneurs engaged in activities such as fashion designing and food production, with efforts being made to secure financial support for them.
A comprehensive report will be prepared after analysing the survey data, and subsequent interventions will be based on its findings. Councillors S.K. Abubacker and P.P. Fasna Shamsudheen, among others, attended the inaugural function.
