Seven persons were killed and seven others injured in two road accidents reported in Nandyal and Guntur districts in the early hours of Friday.
Four persons were killed in a head-on collision between a private travels bus and a SUV in Allagadda mandal of Nandyal district. Two persons suffered severe injuries in the accident.
The police said that the driver of the SUV, which was on its way to Hyderabad from Tirupati, lost control of the vehicle, veered onto the divider, and rammed into the travels bus coming in the opposite direction at Nallagatla. The bus was proceeding to Puducherry from Hyderabad.
The deceased, all occupants of the SUV, were identified as Shravan (21), Gunderao Kulkarni (46), Itikadi Narasimhulu (30), and Siddappa (50). The severely injured persons, Siddharth Kulkarni and Shiva Sai Kulkarni, who were also travelling in the SUV, were rushed to the Nandyal Government General Hospital for treatment.
The police said that the victims were residents of Nizampet in Hyderabad, and had been accompanying ‘Shiva Svamis’ for the last couple of days and cooking for them during their pilgrimage.
Allagadda DSP K. Pramod and Circle Inspector B.V. Ramana rushed to the spot and supervised the rescue operations. The bus passengers were shifted to another vehicle for their onward journey.
R&B Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy, Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu and Home Minister V. Anitha expressed shock over the loss of lives, and directed the officials to provide best treatment to the injured.

In another accident, three persons were killed on the spot when a private travels bus rammed a stationary car on National Highway-16 under the limits of Nallapadu police station in Guntur district.
The police said the car was proceeding to Suryapet in Telangana from Tirupati.
“At around 5.30 a.m., when the car reached Kommineni Cold Storage, the driver stopped the vehicle on the road margin as he felt drowsy. As he stepped out of the vehicle to wash his face, a private travels bus rammed the car from behind, killing three of the eight occupants on the spot,” said Nallapadu Circle Inspector Kandepu Vamsidhar.
The deceased were identified as Kunchala Venkataiah (65), his wife Kunchala Suseela (56), and Navila Mahesh (28), all native of Suryapet district. The five other occupants of the car escaped with injuries. They were shifted to a nearby hospital.
