SFI, PAAP demand strict action against MBU

The members of Students Federation of India (SFI) and Parents Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP) demanded strict action against the management of Mohan Babu University (MBU) for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of SFI leaders in Tirupati.

The SFI activists staged a protest near Rangarayudu Cheruvu Circle in Ongole on Wednesday (February 04, 2026) against the kidnapping of SFI leaders who questioned irregularities at MBU.

On the occasion, SFI district secretary Veeraswamy said, “The Andhra Pradesh Higher Education Regulatory and Monitoring Commission (APHERMC) has confirmed many irregularities and instances of corruption at MBU. However, the State government has not yet taken any action.”

“Representing an association that constantly fights for the students’ rights, the SFI leaders were preparing to hold a peaceful protest in front of the Collector’s office. However, they were kidnapped in the most brutal manner. The government must immediately cancel the recognition of MBU,” he said.

The government should respond immediately and ensure the university returns the ₹27 crore that was illegally collected from the students. Cases should be registered against Mohan Babu and his followers for fraud, and the kidnappers should be arrested at the earliest and severely punished, the SFI activist demanded.

The members of Parents Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP) wrote a letter to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu urging for stern action against the institutions which are dealing education as a business and destroying the future of the students.

PAAP president S. Narahari said, “The management of MBU is harassing and filing illegal cases against the parents for complaining to the education department about the fee fraud. It is physically attacking and kidnapping those who question them.”

The APHERMC investigation found that the university had illegally collected ₹26.17 crore. Although the government accepted the report and imposed a penalty of ₹15 lakh, the management is delaying refunds to the students, he added.
