A total of 81 offenders, including 64 majors and 17 minors, were apprehended by SHE Teams in the Malkajgiri Commissionerate during intensified women safety enforcement and decoy operations conducted between January 1 and January 15, 2026. During the same period, police received 97 complaints related to harassment of women and girls.
Of the 97 complaints received, 17 were related to harassment through phone calls, 36 involved harassment through social media applications and 44 pertained to direct or physical harassment.
Police also highlighted several important cases handled during the period. In one case, a young woman complained that a co-worker had pressured her into a relationship and later threatened to upload her personal photographs on social media when she refused to marry him. The accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody after a case was registered.
In a separate case, police registered a case against a man for harassing a college student pursuing B.Tech at a private engineering college. The girl had allegedly been stalked and subjected to indecent comments at bus stop, causing fear and mental stress.
DCP Women Safety, Malkajgiri Commissionerate, T. Usha Rani said women safety remained a top priority and warned that the police would not spare anyone involved in harassing women. She urged women to come forward and lodge complaints without fear, assuring prompt and firm action.
She said that the SHE Teams were conducting decoy operations in plain clothes at bus stands, railway stations, metro stations, schools, colleges, vegetable markets and other public places. Offenders involved in stalking or harassment were apprehended with evidence, produced before courts and counselled in the presence of their family members.
Under her supervision, counselling sessions were conducted for eve teasers at the CP Camp Office in LB Nagar with the help of professional counsellors. During this period, nine criminal cases were registered, 29 petty cases were booked and counselling was provided to 52 persons.
During metro rail decoy operations, three men were found travelling in women only compartments and were fined by metro station authorities.
