Shirur Mutt conducts Dhaanya Muhurta ahead of its Seer ascending the Paryaya Peetha

The Udupi Shirur Mutt conducted Dhaanya Muhurta, the process of collection of cereals, ahead of its Seer Sri Vedavardhana Tirtha Swamiji undertaking the two-year Paryaya of offering pooja to Lord Sri Krishna at Sri Krishna Mutt, on Sunday, in Udupi.

Sri Vedavardhana Tirtha is set to ascend the Sarvajna Peetha or the seat of Paryaya on January 18 after Udupi Puttige Mutt Seer Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji completes his two-year term. The Paryaya Seer in-waiting has got many other rituals associated with the Paryaya, including the Bale (plantain leaf) Muhurta, Akki (rice) Muhurta and the Kattige (firewood) Muhurta earlier to gear up for the smooth conduct of his pooja and administration.

While Lord Krishna is called the Anna Brahma, a host delicacies are offered to him during the day-long pooja. Thousands of devotees receive food during the Anna Dasoha every day at the Sri Krishna Mutt. The Muhurtas are the precursor not only to offer pooja to the Lord, but also to offer food during to the visiting devotees during the two year period.

Several rituals were conducted as a part of the Dhaanya Muhurta on Sunday, wherein devotees brought cereals and rice on head load in a procession along the Car Street. Later, the foodgrains were taken to the Badagu Malige at the Krishna Mutt where priests offered pooja to them. The Kattige Ratha too was given a final shape on the day.

MLA Yashpal Suvarna, Shirur Mutt Diwan Uday Saralathaya, Kateel Sri Durga Parameshwari Temple hereditary priest Lakshminarayana Asranna, VHP leader M B Puranik, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura from Kalkura Pratishthana and others were present.
