Shivamogga police conduct special drive on ganja consumption and sale

The Shivamogga police conducted a special drive against the consumption and sale of ganja in the last two months and booked a total of 177 cases.

Shivamogga Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar on December 30 informed the media that in November, the police booked 82 cases. Among them, 74 cases were related to the consumption of ganja and there were 76 accused persons. Besides that, eight more cases were registered against 12 persons on charges of ganja sale and cultivation. The police recovered 4.5 kg of ganja and 26 gm of MDMA worth over ₹4.91 lakh that month.

Similarly, in December, the police registered 95 cases. Of them, 86 cases were related to consumption of ganja and nine cases were related to the supply and sale of the drug. The police recovered nearly 9 kg of ganja, worth over ₹4.5 lakh.

The police have intensified the drive to stop the consumption and sale of ganja, following reports of an increase in ganja consumption in the district.
