The pumpset industry in Coimbatore is targetting a total turnover of $5 billion, said Ma. Sendilkumar, the newly-elected president of the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association (SIEMA).
Following the annual meeting of the Association held on Tuesday (August 25, 2026), he said the market size of the global pump industry is approximately $95 billion. Coimbatore is recognised as one of India’s leading pump manufacturing hubs and supplies pumpsets to several international brands. The region’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have also established themselves as reliable vendors to major global companies and the SIEMA has played a pivotal role in the development and growth of the Coimbatore pump industry.
“It (the Association) has set an ambitious target of achieving a collective turnover of $5 billion (approximately ₹50,000 crore) through its member companies over the next five years,” he said.
The Association will focus on import substitution as India currently imports pumps valued at close to $450 million annually. The SIEMA, in collaboration with its members and with the support of SiTarc and COINDIA, will focus on developing high-quality indigenous alternatives to these products. It will also place greater emphasis on strengthening MSMEs through cluster-based programmes focused on technological advancement, systems improvement, modern manufacturing practices, and greater awareness of international markets.
The SIEMA has urged the government to recognise pumps as a thrust sector as they constitute an essential input for the agricultural sector and several other critical industries. The government should extend subsidies, interest subvention and other investment support measures, reduce GST rate on pumps, which was previously 12% and is currently at 18%, and support the MSMEs adopt Industry 4.0, including robotics, automation, and advanced manufacturing systems.
The newly-elected office-bearers of the Association for 2026-28 are : Ma. Sendilkumar of Superteck Industries (president), Arun Ranganathan of Suguna Industries, K. Mohan Senthilkumar of Aqua Flow, and R. Karthikeyan of OMI Pumps (vice-presidents).
