SIT that probed Prajwal Revanna’s crimes rewarded with ₹25 lakh

The State government has announced a reward of ₹25 lakh for the officers in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is probing the crimes of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna. 

The SIT was formed following a large cache of sex videos of Prajwal Revanna that were leaked ahead of the parliamentary polls in 2024. While Prajwal Revanna fled the country, four of the over 90 victims seen in the videos came forward, and a total of four cases — three for rape and one for sexual harassment — were registered against him. In an unprecedented turn of events, the SIT ensured the trial for the first case was completed in just over a year, and Prajwal Revanna was convicted in August, 2025. He was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for the remainder of his life. Multiple appeals against his conviction and sentence in the higher courts have also been dismissed. 

A total of 29 officers have been given a cash reward, while the government placed on record its appreciation for the SIT chief, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) B. K. Singh, who led the probe. While two women, IPS officers Suman D. Pennekar and Seema Latkar, who spearheaded the probe, have been awarded ₹2.5 lakh each, inspectors Shobha G., Shobha N., Sumarani B., Swarna G. S., and Hemanth Kumar M., who were investigating officers in the cases, were rewarded in the range of ₹1.5 and ₹1.75 lakh. 

Meanwhile, the State government also rewarded 83 personnel from Davanagere District Police a total of ₹10.02 lakh for cracking a bank heist at the State Bank of India branch in Nyamati in October 2024, where 17 kgs of gold worth ₹13 crore was stolen. The case was cracked in April 2025, and six members of the gang were arrested, and the gold was recovered. Sam Varghese, Additional Superintendent of Police of Davanagere district, led the probe and has been rewarded ₹25,000, apart from 82 others who were part of the large investigation.
