The Sivaganga court sentenced six people to life imprisonment for murdering a farmer in a property dispute.
Karuppiah, 60, a farmer from Poosanikulam village near Thittakudi in Sivaganga district, had an ongoing property dispute with Alagu, 63, from the same village. On October 7, 2018, another dispute broke out between Karuppiah and Alagu’s family.
In a fit of rage, Alagu, his wife Rathinam, 62, their sons Kannan, 42, and Pandimurugan, 38, along with relatives Mahalakshmi, 43, from Vanjanipatti and Latha, 40, from Nelmanipatti, jointly attacked Karuppiah.
Karuppiah succumbed to his injuries during the assault. The Nerkuppai police registered a case and arrested all six individuals involved in the murder. The trial was conducted before the Sivaganga District Principal Sessions Court.
Principal District Judge Arivoli, who heard the case, sentenced all six accused—Alagu, Rathinam, Kannan, Pandimurugan, Mahalakshmi, and Latha—to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹7,500 on each of them.
