The Jnanabharathi police have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly stalking, harassing, and sexually assaulting a young woman after befriending her through social media.

According to the police, the accused established contact with the victim via social media and began pressuring her to accept his love. Despite her repeated refusals, he allegedly continued to stalk her, follow her movements, abuse her using obscene language, physically assault her and threaten her.

The police said that on Tuesday, around 3.20 p.m., the accused went to the PG accommodation where the victim was staying and again forced her to accept his proposal. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her by hitting her on the head, back, and legs, forcibly grabbed her shirt, attempted to tear her clothes and sexually harassed her before fleeing the spot.

Within hours of registering the case, the police traced and arrested the accused, identified as Naveen Kumar N., 29, a resident of Billamaranahalli village, Yelahanka. He has been taken into custody.

Following the incident, the woman vacated the PG accommodation due to fear and trauma. The police said the victim had shifted four to five PGs in the last six months to escape the accused’s harassment and had been staying at Sai Baba PG for the last two months. Investigators revealed that the accused had earlier created disturbances near the PG premises and had repeatedly followed and harassed the woman wherever she moved. Due to the continuous harassment, the victim had reportedly quit her job as a telecaller.
