Special prayers held for rain at Begampur Big Mosque

With Dindigul facing a severe water crisis due to lack of rainfall, special prayers were held at Begampur Big Mosque in the district on Saturday.

Thousands of people, who participated in the special prayers, said agricultural activities and even the daily lives of the people were affected due to the drought-like situation.

Farmers were affected due to lack of adequate water for agricultural activities. Dindigul was predominantly an agricultural district and a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and flowers were grown in the district and transported to other parts of the State and country. However, the district was facing severe water depletion, they said.

The district was facing a drinking water crisis too. Residents were conducting protests in several parts of the district with empty pots, urging the authorities to take steps to resolve the issue. They had also submitted petitions to the Dindigul Collector. Therefore, special prayers were held at the Begampur Big Mosque, they added.
