The Joint Secretary for the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Special Roll Observer, Kuldip Narayan, participated in the consultative meeting with representatives of recognised political parties in Salem on Tuesday evening (December 30, 2025).
Speaking at the meeting held at the Salem Collectorate, Mr. Kuldip said that as per the orders of the Election Commission of India, the work for the special intensive revision (SIR) of the draft electoral roll for 2026 has been under way since December 19. Special camps were held at 1,346 polling stations in 11 Assembly Constituencies on December 27, 28 and two more camps will be held on January 3, 4 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at 3,468 polling booths.
He said that 11 electoral registration officials, 111 assistant electoral registration officials, 3,468 booth level officers and 346 monitoring officials are engaged in the works. Discussions on voter awareness, numbers of applications received, adding new voters, and deletion of names were held in the meeting, Mr. Narayan added.
Stating that eligible voters should be included in the voter list, Mr. Narayan said that persons who will complete 18 years of age on January 1, 2026 (born before December 31, 2007) should submit Form 6 to add their names. To delete names, Form 7 should be used.
The Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers have been instructed to take appropriate steps so that the name of migrated/shifted voters are not left out, Mr. Kuldip added.
Later, he inspected the polling stations in the Salem West Assembly Constituency. District Collector R. Brindha Devi, District Revenue Officer R. Ravikumar, Salem Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan, and officials from departments concerned were also present.
