A special enrolment drive will be launched in the Union Territory to facilitate eligible persons who could not get themselves enrolled during the Special Intensive Revision exercise and young citizens who have become eligible electors to enrol themselves in the electoral roll, Chief Electoral Officer ASPS Ravi Prakash said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at the Election Department here, he said the Election Commission of India has directed States and Union Territories where SIR has been completed to conduct a special drive for the enrolment of left-out eligible electors and young/first-time eligible electors under the process of continuous updation of the electoral roll.
As part of the process, special camps will be organised in at least two locations in every Assembly constituency in the Union Territory. The details of the date, time and location of the camps will be intimated by the DEOs and given wide publicity. Electoral Registration Officers and Booth Level Officers will assist eligible citizens in submitting applications for enrolment, the CEO said.
The camps will focus on enrolment of eligible persons who are left out of the electoral roll, young voters, students, residents of newly-developed residential areas, persons with disabilities and other persons requiring assistance. The enrolment of eligible voters will be done with October 1, 2026 as qualifying date, he said.
âWe appeal to all eligible citizens, particularly young/first-time voters and persons who have not enrolled themselves in the electoral roll during SIR to make use of the camps and enrol themselves in the electoral roll. Citizens are also encouraged to cooperate with the BLOs during their field visits and provide the necessary information for facilitating enrolment,â the CEO said.
