Students of SRKR Engineering College at Bhimavaram in West Godavari district have reaped a rich haul of prizes at the national-level Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025, jointly conducted by the Government of India, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Union Ministry of Education.
In a statement on Tuesday, college secretary and correspondent S.R. Nishanth Varma said that SRKR students secured first place in two categories at the finals held at VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Technology and Engineering, Hyderabad. Each winning team received a cash prize of â‚ą75,000. Another team from the college also delivered an impressive performance at the competitions held in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, winning a cash prize of â‚ą25,000, bringing national-level recognition to the college.
College principal K. V. M. Krishna Raju and director M. Jagapathi Raju said one of the winning teams, comprising of third-year ECE students, developed a hardware-based system to detect unsafe and unauthorised electrical wiring and finishing. The team was led by Y. Jyothsna, included members P. Dasaratha Ram, S. S. Vennela Sri, V. Vikas, A. Nirikshana Paul and D. Venkata Lokesh. The team were mentored by Head of the Technology Center M. Gopalakrishna Murthy, along with SRKR alumna Deepika.
Another SRKR team that won â‚ą75,000 cash award sponsored by the Government of Kerala for their hardware project on improving power quality in distribution networks using renewable energy. The team was led by P. Harikrishna (III-year EEE) and included V. Lakshman Kumar (III-year EEE), CH. Kumar Raju (III-year EE), K. Jejeswara Rao (III-year ECE), S. Teja Venkata Divya Latha (III-year IT), and M. S. Sai Prakash (III-year ECE). Assistant Professor K. Pawan Kumar (AICTE Idea Lab) and SRKR alumnus D. Gopi Manikantha were mentors for the team.
At the Ghaziabad finals, a team of CSG students developed an innovative software solution to identify whether Central Government welfare schemes were reaching beneficiaries directly. The team received the “Best Performance Award,” and was led by P. Hema Ashwini (III-year CSG), included members MSL Deepika, G. Naga Gayatri, P. Leela Sri, P. Rama Naga Ganesh (Final Year), and K. Yashwanth (Final Year), under the mentorship of professor and head of the CSG department M. Suresh Babu and assistant professor S. Mohan Krishna.
