Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s only objective over the past four years has been to pave the way for his son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, to become the Chief Minister of the State.
Speaking to media persons after participating in a Grama makkal sandhippu (village interaction programme) at Ettarai village in Andhanallur union of Tiruchi district, Mr. Nagenthran said the Chief Minister had failed to address key governance issues. “For the last four years, the Chief Minister has not paid any attention to the problems of the people. His sole focus has been on ensuring that his son becomes the Chief Minister. That is why he is holding on tightly to the alliance. How successful he will be is for the people to decide,” he said.
On alleged fertilizer shortages, Mr. Nagenthran said the Union government had extended all necessary support and the State government should show greater responsibility in addressing the issue. He urged the State government to make arrangements for the production of quality seeds.
Promise of check dams
Criticising Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan, he said despite assurances of constructing 1,000 check dams, not a single one had been built even after four years.
Mr. Nagenthran said once the National Democratic Alliance comes to power in Tamil Nadu under the leadership of Edappadi K. Palaniswami, with the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, check dams would be constructed at appropriate locations across rivers to protect water resources.
During the interaction, residents raised several demands, including the establishment of a perfume manufacturing unit as jasmine was widely grown in the region, fixation of support prices for banana and paddy, construction of additional check dams across the Cauvery, and additional classrooms for the government school at Pothavur.
Assuring the people of action, Mr. Nagenthran said if an AIADMK-led NDA government assumes office, steps would be taken to fulfil these demands.
Former Minister and AIADMK Tiruchi North district secretary M. Paranjothi and BJP Tiruchi city district president K. Ondimuthu were present.
