A 16-year-old student was grievously injured, while four others sustained injuries following the collapse of a portion of a parapet wall of a community hall in Yemmekere in Mangaluru on Saturday evening.
A large number of students had gathered in front of the hall to celebrate the selection of office-bearers of the All College Students Union. As the celebration was under way, a group of students climbed up to the first floor of the community hall and a few leaned against the parapet wall. Some students fell down along with the portion of the wall that collapsed.
Mohammed Shamaz, 16, a resident of Haleyangadi, sustained a grievous injury and was taken to hospital. The police said he was in the ICU of a private hospital and is suspected to be brain dead.
The police gave names of the injured persons as Mohammed Shanan Ahmed,18, Haneef, 23, Dawood Farseen Ahmed, 18, and Mohammed Shakeel Hussain, 18.
The injured were undergoing treatment at a private hospital, the police said.
