The district administration has invited applications under the Powerloom Modernisation Scheme for upgrading three-year-old conventional powerlooms to shuttleless rapier looms and for purchasing new shuttleless rapier looms.
In a statement, Collector N.O. Sukhaputra said the exercise of providing capital subsidy was aimed at meeting the growing technological needs in the powerloom sector. Under the scheme, the Government had planned to upgrade 3,000 conventional powerlooms every year at a cost of ₹30 crore. Similarly, ₹15 crore had been allocated to buy shuttles rapier looms or to replace the rapier looms that worked at a slower pace with new rapier looms.
The Government had also allocated ₹5 crore for setting up a common facility centre, powerloom shed and quality testing laboratory, the statement said.
Under the scheme, a capital subsidy of 50% or ₹1 lakh per loom, whichever was lower, would be given for upgrading conventional plain powerlooms to shuttleless rapier looms with tuck-in device. Each beneficiary could get a subsidy for a maximum 10 looms.
The subsidy of 20% or ₹1.50 lakh per loom, whichever was lower, would be given to buy new shuttleless rapier looms or to replace the slow-speed rapier looms with new rapier looms. The subsidy would be given for five looms per beneficiary.
The Government would provide 25% subsidy or ₹60 lakh, whichever was lower, for setting up a common facility centre for warping and sizing unit, testing laboratory, design studio and sample production centre.
