Suspects behind bomb threats yet to be traced

The investigation launched by the police into three major bomb threats against the Kozhikode Civil Station and the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital is yet to make any headway. Though the police claim that the source of the email messages sent to the official email IDs has been traced, no suspects have been identified so far.

The first incident took place on August 21, 2025, when an email, sent from an anonymous source, claimed that a bomb would explode at 1.30 p.m. at the collectorate’s B Block. The email, sent in the name of ‘Madras Tigers’, was later identified as a hoax. However, security arrangements at the collectorate were strengthened following a detailed safety audit by the bomb detection and disposal squad.

The second incident occurred on February 3. This time, too, the threat came in the form of an email sent to one of the official IDs. As a precaution, the entire premises were placed under heightened surveillance and subjected to multiple rounds of security checks by the police.

Even after three days of investigation, the police failed to trace the source of the threat. Similar threats were also reported at a few other collectorates and courts in the State. The reasons behind the repeated threats remain unknown, as the police are yet to identify any suspects.

Another major threat was reported at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on January 7, 2026. The email was reportedly sent to the official email address of the Medical College Principal, who handed it over to the police for investigation. Initial findings indicated that the email originated from Tamil Nadu, but no further progress has been reported in tracing the sender.

Though the threats in all the incidents were later found to be hoaxes, they triggered serious safety concerns among the public, especially patients and their bystanders at the medical college hospital. The police had put in place elaborate security arrangements to address public anxiety, which were later scaled down.

According to police sources, all recent hoax threat cases are being examined by a special investigation team. They said details gathered by the local police and cyber investigation teams had been handed over to the assigned investigators for further action.
