The Tambaram police seized more than 2,700 Kg of banned tobacco products in Thirumudivakkam on Wednesday. 

The police said that they got information about banned tobacco products being smuggled in a Karnataka-registered truck and was being transported in small vehicles in Thirumudivakkam.

Based on the tip off, a police team went to the Thirumudivakkam industrial estate and as they were inspecting the vehicles, the police saw a truck with Karnataka state registration parked on the road and a small truck nearby. As the police team approached, the persons waiting in the truck abandoned the vehicles and escaped from the place. 

The police inspected the trucks and found 2,704 kg of banned tobacco products packed and kept in bundles. The police have filed a case and are conducting searches for the persons who smuggled the products.
