Tamilaruvi Manian, who merged his Kamarajar Makkal Katchi with the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) here on Saturday, called upon Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay to join the AIADMK-led alliance, saying the common goal of all parties is to unseat the DMK from power.
Manian, along with his party functionaries, formally joined the TMC in the presence of its president, G.K. Vasan.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Manian said that Vijay, who has a first-generation vote base of about 20% in the State, aspires to become Chief Minister, but is seeking an alliance with Congress, which holds only a 3–5% vote share. “Even if smaller parties with a 1% vote share join him, he cannot win, and his 20% support will be wasted,” he said. He urged Vijay to ally with the AIADMK and BJP, which together secured 41% of votes in the last Lok Sabha election. “If Vijay joins the alliance, it can win over 200 seats, fulfilling the common objective of defeating the DMK,” he added.
Mr. Manian advised Vijay to sacrifice his Chief Ministerial ambitions if he truly intends to serve people. He also suggested that Vijay consider whether he wants to emulate Chiranjeevi, who faced setbacks after going solo, or Pawan Kalyan, who allied with Chandrababu Naidu to secure a significant political role.
Welcoming Mr. Manian, Vasan said the merger was rooted in ideology and guided by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, K. Kamaraj, and G.K. Moopanar.
