A 55-year-old school teacher was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Tuesday evening.
A government high school is functioning near Nallampalli in Dharmapuri district. Last week, the school’s social science teacher Manivannan allegedly sexually assaulted a class IX girl. The girl revealed this to her parents and they lodged a complaint with the school headmaster. Allegations were raised that some local politicians, on behalf of the teacher, tried to settle the issue by giving money. The teacher also absconded.
Following the information, District Education Officer Perumal conducted an inquiry at the school on Monday. Following this, on Tuesday, the teacher was placed on suspension.
On Tuesday, the Adiyamankottai police registered a case against the teacher under the POCSO Act and arrested him.
