The parents of slain software engineer Kavin Selvaganesh began a protest in front of their house in Arumugamangalam in Thoothukudi district on Thursday, condemning the quashing of the final report against the parents of prime accused S. Surjith in the murder case.

Two days ago, the Madurai bench of Madras High Court quashed the final report against Saravanan and Krishnakumari, the parents of Surjith. Condemning the order, Kavin’s parents Chandrasekar and Tamilselvi began a protest in Arumugamangalam.

Speaking to the media, Ms. Tamilselvi said, “What have we been fighting for all these days? The charge sheet has been quashed stating there is insufficient evidence. If so, where is the justice for us?”

The protesting parents questioned how the arrests were made in the first place if there was insufficient evidence in the case.

They sought the permission for the CBCID to continue the investigation and collect further evidence. “As those involved in the case are police officers, their role should also be thoroughly investigated. The incidents through which we believe evidence in the case was destroyed should also be investigated,” Ms. Tamilselvi said.

“We have no personal enmity with anyone. We believe in justice and fairness. We have been fighting so far only on the basis of justice. We respect the court’s verdict. At the same time, we need proper answers to our doubts and questions” she added.

Ms. Tamilselvi urged the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay intervene and initiate an appeal on behalf of the government and take steps for further investigation. They said their protest would continue until their questions were answered and justice was secured for their son.
