A one-day national conference on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was organised by the Teresian College Research Centre (Commerce), Teresian College, Mysuru here on February 4. The conference aimed to create awareness about the growing importance of IPR in research, innovation, entrepreneurship, industry, and the digital economy.
The inaugural session was graced by academicians, including H. Rajashekar, University of Mysore, and P. Ishwar Bhat, former Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. In his address, Prof. Rajashekar highlighted the relevance of IPR in the digital era, noting that rapid industrial growth has increased the risk of duplication of creative and innovative works. Prof. Bhat emphasised that IPR plays a vital role in protecting original ideas, fostering innovation, preserving culture, and contributing to national economic growth.
Rev. Dr. Sr. Sahaya Mary, Principal of Teresian College, reminded participants of their responsibilities as a community of learners, while Veena M. D’Almeida, director of research, and Vivek Charles, Internal Quality Assurance Cell coordinator, were also present. P.M. Shivaprasad, assistant professor, also attended.
The conference featured four technical sessions covering patents, designs, trademarks, copyrights, and IPR in the digital era, delivered by experts and academicians. The event provided an academic platform for meaningful discussions on the subject.
