The Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) has crossed 100 MW of solar power generation capacity under the PM-KUSUM-A scheme across its 18 circles, marking a significant expansion of its renewable energy portfolio.
In a statement on Thursday, TGNPDCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Karnati Varun Reddy said the achievement reflected the company’s focus on increasing renewable energy capacity and promoting a sustainable power system.
Under PM-KUSUM-A, farmers can set up solar power plants on their land and supply surplus power to the grid. The initiative is aimed at creating additional income opportunities for farmers while increasing the availability of renewable power at the local level and reducing dependence on conventional sources, Mr. Varun Reddy said.
He appreciated the coordinated efforts of officials, engineers and field staff in implementing the projects across all 18 circles and achieving the 100 MW milestone. He directed officials to maintain the momentum and accelerate the development of additional solar capacity.
Another 200 MW of solar capacity is currently at various stages of development, taking the total planned capacity to about 300 MW. The TGNPDCL is targeting the integration of the entire 300 MW with the grid within the next three to four months, the CMD said.
He said the expansion of solar power under PM-KUSUM-A would provide farmers with additional income opportunities while strengthening the company’s renewable energy portfolio.
