A three-day national seminar on “Thanjavur Marathi State: History, Language, Literature and Culture” was held at the Tamil University, here from December 22.
It was jointly organised by Tamil University, Thanjavur; Shivaji University, Kolhapur; Mahavir College, Kolhapur; Devchand College, Arjunnagar; and the Shivaji University Marathi Teachers’ Association, and the Shivaji University History Council.
The seminar focused on the historical legacy of the Thanjavur Maratha rule, and its lasting contributions to Marathi language, literature, theatre, inscriptions, and cultural traditions. Research papers on topics such as Marathi theatre in Thanjavur, unpublished manuscripts, Sarasvati Mahal Library collections, Marathi inscriptions, medieval, and modern Marathi literature, and the literary contributions of the Thanjavur Maratha rulers.
As part of the seminar, a special academic visit to the Sarasvati Mahal Library was organised, where participants were introduced to rare manuscripts, and archival material, receiving wide appreciation from researchers. Interactive discussions and paper presentation sessions provided a valuable platform for young researchers and senior scholars alike, according to the organisers of the seminar.
