Members of the Special Activities Para Association of Thoothukudi on Monday submitted a petition at the weekly grievance redressal meeting seeking a separate indoor stadium in the district for para sportspersons.
The petition was submitted to Collector Vishu Mahajan, who presided over the meeting.
The petition said that several players from the district regularly participated in para sports competitions organised for differently abled people. This included a player representing the national team in sitting volleyball.
The association said the indoor stadium should have a gym, sitting volleyball court and table tennis court. It also requested that a monthly grievance redressal meeting be conducted exclusively for differently abled persons in the district to address their concerns.
P. Yogeeswaran, president, Special Activities Para Association, said that many players in the district actively trained in various sports and establishment of a dedicated para sports stadium would greatly benefit them. As an immediate measure, the district administration must establish a separate indoor stadium equipped with all facilities.
In a separate petition, the Mappillaiyoornai Panchayat level Women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) Federation highlighted the issues related to inclusion of of free pattas from the village in adangal records.
The petition said that several families in Mappillaiyoornai panchayat were provided with free pattas in 2000, 2012, 2014 and 2026. However, the Village Administrative Officer informed them that details of some patta had not been uploaded online and, therefore, the properties could not be registered.
The petitioners urged the district administration to take steps to enter the free patta into adangal records and facilitate the issue of chitta for residents, noting that many of the affected residents were daily wage labourers.
