Nagercoil Corporation on Saturday imposed a total fine of ₹15,000 on two medical establishments for dumping waste at a public place near Head Post Office in Nagercoil.

According to a Corporation official, an online complaint was received regarding the dumping of waste, including wrappers, papers and other materials by the medical establishments. Following the complaint, Corporation officials conducted an inspection and found that two medical establishments from the locality had dumped the waste.

A total final amount of ₹15,000 was imposed on the two medical establishments.

In a separate incident, a private organisation was fined ₹20,000 for dumping waste in the public place in Thammathukonam. The areas where garbage had been dumped was subsequently cleaned and a warning was issued.

Nagercoil Corporation Commissioner R. Ishwarya has warned that strict action would be taken against households, commercial establishments, shops and other entities that dumped waste in public places instead of segregating it and handing it over to sanitation workers.
