Three youth killed as speeding car crashes into bike in Kochi, driver booked

Three youth, including two women, were killed after an allegedly speeding car struck the two-wheeler they were riding near Nedumbassery in Ernakulam district in the early hours of Sunday (October 11, 2026), the police said. The Nedumbassery police have taken the driver of the car and his fellow passenger into custody.

The deceased are Eyas of Coorg in Karnataka, Gopika from Mannarkkad in Palakkad, and Devika from Wayanad. They were employees of an antique shop in Thrikkakara.

The accident took place at Moozhiyal on Airport-Athani Road around 1.45 a.m. “The victims were returning from a shop. The car came from behind and struck the two-wheeler, fatally injuring the riders,” the Nedumbassery Inspector said.

The scooter riders were thrown away in the impact of the collision and the windshield and bonnet of the car damaged.

Though Gopika was rushed to the Angamaly Taluk Hospital and the others to a private hospital at Desom, Aluva, they were brought declared brought dead.

The driver of the car has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 105 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
