All 56 members elected to the Thrissur Corporation and 30 members elected to the district panchayat were sworn in at a ceremony on Sunday held at the corporation hall and the District Planning Bhavan respectively.
District Collector Arjun Pandian administered the oath to the senior-most elected councillor M.L. Rosy at the function in the corporation hall. Elected from the Kalathode division, Ms. Rosy later administered the oath to the remaining councillors.
Revenue Minister K. Rajan, MLA P. Balachandran, former Mayors and councillors, and other public representatives attended the ceremony. Following the oath-taking, the first meeting of the newly elected Corporation council was convened at the corporation hall, chaired by Ms. Rosy.
During the swearing-in ceremony of the district panchayat members, Mr. Pandian administered the oath to the senior-most elected member Mary Thomas.
Elected from the Vazhany division, Ms. Thomas subsequently administered the oath to the remaining members. Of the newly sworn-in members, nine took the oath in the name of God, while the remaining 21 members opted for a solemn affirmation.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Mr. Balachandran, former district panchayat president V.S. Prince, former vice-president Latha Chandran, and other members.
Following the ceremony, the first meeting of the district panchayat was convened at the District Panchayat Hall to initiate steps for commencing administrative functions.
