The absolute dominance by Indian teams on the field at the Asian Games here has been marred by the off-field ugliness in the sport’s administration back home.
The latest low point in the power struggle within the different factions of Hockey India (HI) is an official police complaint filed by president Dilip Tirkey against HI officials and staff alleging harassment, intimidation and fraud.
The complaint, dated September 24 and submitted to the DCP, South Delhi office, seeks filing of a formal FIR against HI Director B.N. Bhushan, suspended Director General Cdr. R.K. Srivastava, finance manager Subodh Kumar and driver Harminder Singh.
“… under relevant provisions for criminal breach of trust, theft, criminal conspiracy, endangerment of life, and wrongful abandonment and request for immediate recovery of stolen assets and documents,” the complaint states.
Sources said Tirkey, currently on a visit to the national capital, had travelled using a vehicle arranged by HI. The vehicle had allegedly been recalled by HI without any intimation to Tirkey, with all his personal belongings and documents in it, and then gone incommunicado.
Both Srivastava and Bhushan did not respond to queries on the complaint.
