The Tirunelveli City Police Commissionerate has been equipped with Mobile Forensic Science Laboratory for conducting on-the-spot crime scene investigations and collect vital evidences from the scene of crime which are essential for cracking the cases and proving the prosecution’s case in the court that ultimately leads to conviction of the suspects.
The laboratory will be handy in collecting blood, semen, saliva, narcotic and psychopathic substances, explosives, gunpowder residue etc. from the scene of crime as this vehicle has been fitted with these kits. The vehicle also has crime scene cordoning tools, ultraviolet and infrared light sources, DSLR cameras and evidence packaging and barcoding materials to prevent sample contamination.
Hence, the Mobile Forensic Science Laboratory will render scientific assistance on the field to locate, collect, preserve scientific evidences from the scene of crimes and assist investigating officers in using scientific techniques at the field for reconstructing the crimes.
Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Deshmukh Shekher Sanjay inspected the new facility on Saturday.
Mobile Forensic Science Laboratory Assistant Director Kala Lakshmi explained about the equipment installed in the vehicle to the Commissioner.
