Tirunelveli Corporation urged to install new motor at Thamizh Nagar overhead tank to streamline drinking water supply

Demanding installation of a new motorpump for Thamizh Nagar overhead tank pumping station to streamline the drinking water distribution, councillor of Ward 51 Sahaya Juliet Mary submitted a petition to Mayor G. Ramakrishnan during the weekly grievance redress meeting held at the Corporation on Tuesday.

In her petition, Ms. Juliet said the drinking water supply to the peripheral areas of her ward had been inadequate and erratic as pumping of water to the Thamizh Nagar overhead tank was not effective. Hence, the Corporation should install a separate pump at Thamizh Nagar overhead tank pumping station to effectively supply drinking water to the tail-end areas. Moreover, separate drinking water pipeline should be laid in Annai Nagar for sufficient drinking water supply to the residents.

She sought the shifting of an electric pole standing on the middle of the road near S.M.R. Nagar.

Residents from Gandhimathi Nagar submitted a petition seeking regular supply of drinking water while the Karim Nagar Jamaath Committee submitted a petition urging the Corporation to repair the badly damaged roads in their area.

“Moreover, our children and senior citizens of our area are facing serious threat from the stray dogs which often go on a biting spree. Hence, the Corporation should control the stray dog menace,” the Jamaath Committee appealed.

Cleaning of waterbody

Advocate Sudharshan of Tamirabharani Environment Protection Movement submitted a petition appealing to the Corporation to clean the Nainarkulam in Tirunelveli Town, which is attracting waterbirds throughout the year, to make it a “bird sanctuary” and repair the badly damaged pavement around this waterbody.

Members of Ayesha Avenue Residents’ Welfare Association near Thiyagaraja Nagar appealed to the Mayor to include their area in the underground drainage scheme’s phase III.

Councillor Sharmila of Ward 34 complained about the sewage overflowing from the ruptured underground drainage pipe and urged the Corporation administration to repair it immediately.

Deputy Mayor K.R. Raju and Assistant Executive Engineer Thangapandian were present.
