Passenger trouble at Tirunelveli junction railway station

The pay and use toilet available at the third platform of Tirunelveli junction railway station was locked during the peak hours, when most of the trains are in operation. Many senior citizens and ladies boarding and deboarding through this platform had faced difficulties. Even battery cars operating on the platform were not working due to technical issues. The concerned authorities must take necessary action to address the issues, which should not be repeating in future.

Bus facility required

Many people from Eruvadi are currently resigning in the neighbouring states Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for their livelihood. To facilitate easy travel, an inter state bus facility from Eruvadi is necessary. Currently interstate long route buses are operating from Nanguneri and Valliyoor. The transport authorities must take necessary action to operate buses from Nanguneri and Valliyoor to other states through Eruvadi.

Accident risk

The pathway in the unguarded railway track adjacent to the newly constructed railway over bridge in Ozhuginasery, is used as thoroughfare by the public and cattle. Since the bridge obstructs the view of the train towards Nagercoil junction from the Nagercoil town railway station it has become vulnerable to accidents. Many accidents had occurred even before the extension work on the overbridge began. Now the possibilities have increased multifolded. The railway authorities are requested to make immediate steps to close the pathway to avoid accidents on the spot.

Border tensions

Arresting fishermen on the borders of Sri Lankan waters has become the order of the day and recently 12 fishermen from Rameshwaram have been arrested by the Sri Lankan navy. The chief minister of Tamil Nadu has been routinely writing letters to the prime minister regarding this issue. The Indian fishermen, who venture into territorial waters of India and Sri Lanka, knowing or unknowingly to earn their livelihood, continue to get caught despite the advent of advanced technological gadgets. While the central government and Tamil Nadu have contributed to the lion’s share when Sri Lanka was devastated by a recent cyclone, why can’t the heads of the state go for a bilateral talk and find a permanent solution.
