Driver negligence
It is highly disturbing to read from newspapers that some omni bus drivers from southern districts were under the influence of alcohol, during a routine check conducted by police officials on highways. As it exceeds the permissible level the drivers’ licenses were cancelled and the buses were allowed to continue the journey with new drivers. The speedy police action is an appreciable move and such measures must be continued in all places to save the lives of innocent passengers.

Signalised roundabout needed
The absence of a roundabout at Derik Junction, one of the main connecting points of several roads in Nagercoil causes disarray in vehicular movement and often causes traffic congestion. A signalised roundabout is needed in the area to direct motorists and ease commuter difficulties.

Stray cattle menace
The stray cattle menace on Palayamkottai is causing inconvenience to both motorists and pedestrians. Tirunelveli corporation officials are turning a blind eye on the issue. The officials must take necessary action to eradicate the menace in the interest of people.

Pedestrian pathway needed
It is appreciable that pedestrian pathways are being constructed on the sides of few roads in Nagercoil. But creating pedestrian-friendly roads across the city will benefit thousands of children and senior citizens, thereby reducing the accidents. Water Tank road, once a residential area has now become a commercial road with three marriage halls, lacking proper parking facilities. The authorities are requested to construct a continuous pedestrian pathway and sidewalks, so that there are defined areas for walking without hindrance to vehicular movements.

Works stalled
When the dates of the assembly election was announced, all the public development works initiated by the Corporation in twin towns Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai were abruptly stopped. The candidates in the fray had also promised they would do everything for the people for a comfortable living. Now that the election is over, even though the corporation officials are remaining silent without taking any measure to complete the unfinished works. It is the expectation of the people that work should be completed on war footing, and it is the duty of the elected candidates to urge the authorities concerned to finish the pending works.

Roadside neglect
There is a road going on the eastern side of Mahadhanapuram roundabout passing through Panchalingapuram and Sundenparappu. On both sides of that road Prosopis juliflora and other weeds have outgrown, causing difficulty for motorists. The concerned authorities are requested to remove these outgrowths and trim the branches.
